Our last day on the island, we decided that we are going to church this morning and then we are taking a bus to a famous beach.
My dad went early and sat through the ceremony of chanting for two hours, waiting for the sermon. Hy mis die dominees van Wapadrand gemeente darem baie. My parents were disappointed! No sermon on the mount.
Mom and I arrived ten minutes too late for the church ceremony but just in time for greek coffee and cake! The little greek ladies insisted we have cake and piled cake into paper bags for us to take away! The church is so ornate but beautiful and always filled with flowers. I bought a candle and said a prayer for our journey that really starts tomorrow.
We left the church, went to a little place where the Greeks drink coffee, ordered delicious greek yogurt and had some of the holy almond cake, (the priest blessed the cake and the old ladies put it in paper bags with a cross on).
We then got onto the bus and went to the Koukounaries beach, backed by pine trees and touted as the best beach in Greece. The 1200 m long sweep of pale gold sand does indeed sparkle!
Back at Villa Ella we had some sundowners with Cristiana and her mom, and then we went out for our last supper on the island! Another amazing eating experience but more of that later!
